A sport is an activity that involves physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another. There is a great deal of sporting activities for instance athletics, soccer, golf, tennis, among others.
St. Anthony Primary School is not only an academic-oriented institution but also embraces sports to mold an all-round child. This special day is always organized every other year. This year it was held on Saturday, 25th March 2023.
It all started with different colour patrons in conjunction with the games and sports teacher selecting different activities that the pupils would take part in. They selected items like sack races, bottle filling, cross-country races, tunnel ball, word formation, short and long relays, rope skipping, and bicycle races to mention but a few.
The colour patrons started training sessions which helped them to select their best participants who would compete in the different activities. Each colour trained zealously to emerge as champions.
On a long-awaited day, we started by marching from our mighty school through Kajjansi Trading Centre as we headed to Kitende SS playground. On reaching there, our teachers gathered us in our respective camps according to our colours.
Our dear parents and distinguished guests turned up in big numbers to witness us exhibit our talents in different sporting activities. At around 9:00am, the competitions kicked off where each colour presented the best participants in various activities. The rest of the colour members cheered up their representatives to perform to their best.
The Guest of Honour, Mr. Ssenyonga James, the Wakiso District Games and Sports Commissioner, gave his speech where he thanked St. Anthony for embracing Sports. He announced the Champions of the day – Green Colour, who was followed by Yellow, then Red and Maroon colours tied in the third position. The victors got their trophy, and they were exceedingly joyous.
They jumped, danced, and sang praising songs thanking the Almighty for the victory they had attained. After all that, we left the playground and came back to school at around 6:00 pm. The best performers from each colour were appreciated for their effort and each one of them was gifted with a new school bag. Green colour members, the champions of the day winners were given a bull to roast.
I extend my heartfelt appreciation to our beloved Management team, the Administration, and the entire St. Anthony staff for organizing such a wonderful sports day for us to develop our talents. I also appeal to other stakeholders in all other schools to embrace Sports in addition to academics for a holistic education experience.
